On October 5, the very first meeting of the Student Council opened their doors for students to say their opinion at IES Hässelby. Mr. Roman and Ms. Malmsköld (a teacher assistant and a student care coordinator at IES Hässelby) opened the opportunity for 6-8 graders. Students can be a leader at the newest school of IES by joining the Student Council.
President Dima Mohammed and Vice President Ali Mahmoudi are running the meetings every week, usually held at Ms. Hökby’s (teacher at IES Hässelby) classroom. The Student Council takes care of student’s opinions and issues, making the school a better place.
“I enjoy it a lot! It makes a big difference in the school,” Alex Olsson, 14, an eighth grader at IES and member of Student Council said. “Right now, we are focusing on making the Senior Club, just for 8th graders. The Student Council wants to put a ping pong table inside!” Alex Olsson told us. “We are also putting soccer (fotball) and basketball balls for kids to use during their breaks outside. The Student Council members are going to take turns monitoring the balls. With the fence and the upcoming playgrounds, the breaks will be much more fun and safe.”

Ms. Malmsköld, one of creators of Student Council and a student care coordinator at IES, told us that “the Student Council is for students to learn how to lead and be more responsible.”
Mr. Roman, the other creator and an assistant teacher at IES, agreed with Ms. Malmsköld. “The students can say and ask what they think, so that it can be easier to know what they want for the school.”
These skills learned in Student Council are a gift for life! Being a part of this organization can help students grow as a person and take part in making a change.
