From Old to New

The IES Hässelby Strand opened this summer in the old gymnasium building, because it had been closed the autumn 2010. But why did they open before they had built everything.

Before, this school was a gymnasium. They closed because they had to small amount of students. In one year the building stood empty, the IES decided to start a new school in the old building. They open the school before they had built the gym and the showers. The students had to change in the toilets and couldn’t shower after the IP lessons.

“The gym and the showers will be finished after Christmas.” said Ms Schäfer, principal of the IES Hässelby Strand. “It will also be a football field, a playground and, what we call it, a cage where the students can bring there skateboards and skate. All this will be finished in August 2012."

Ms Schäfer also hope that they have enough money to build a third floor on the building. “It is still students who wait on a chance to come to our school, and if we have another floor, we can build more classrooms and more students who can study here."

“I think it's great that we are going to have new things that the students can play with, the more things the better.” said Mr Tell, Junior Club. “I think the students will enjoy the football field most, especially the boys, but I hope the girls will play to. It would be fun if we could build a bigger common room, because it get very load if it's many students in a small room.”

“I am very disappointed that we don't have any showers. It's good that we have small changing rooms but it's disgusting that we can't take a shower after the IP lessons, especially if the students have lessons after.” said Johanna Otteskog, 6A. “Our class is lucky on that fact because we have the IP lesson as the last lesson on Thursdays, but it's disgusting anyway because most of us has to take the buss or the train to get home and it's not very convenient   to sit sweaty on a buss or a train. It's good that we are going to have a playground, a football field and a mini-skatepark. I don't know which of them I will enjoy the most, it depends on which of them will be build the best."
